GEIMM participated in the 17th Semana de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão da UFSC (Sepex), October 18-20, 2018
Com um estande sobre Ciência básica e inovação tecnológica no diagnóstico e tratamento do câncer, o GEIMM apresentou o tema “Conhecendo o câncer: novas ferramentas terapêuticas” na 17ª SEPEX. Com isso, foi possível divulgar para a comunidade os trabalhos desenvolvidos pelo grupo. Entre os projeto apresentados, estão a ( i) investigação de produtos naturais e sintéticos com potencial atividade antitumoral, incluindo compostos encapsulados em sistemas nanoestruturados, (ii) o desenvolvimento de nanocarreadores, assim como a avaliação da sua toxicidade, (iii) o desenvolvimento de esferas para o estudo do microambiente tumoral, (iv) a utilização do RNA de interferência no silenciamento pós-transcricional de genes envolvidos no câncer, (v) busca de microRNAs como biomarcadores para diagnóstico precoce de danos no fígado, gliomas e câncer de pulmão. Além dos interesses relativos à ciência básica envolvida, os interesses relativos a inovação científica, no que diz respeito a produção de novos materiais e tecnologias, possibilitando a obtenção de novos produtos e patentes, também foram apresentados.
GEIMM presented the theme “Knowing cancer: new therapeutic tools” at the 17th SEPEX, with a booth on basic science and technological innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of cance. It was possible to disseminate the work developed by the group to the community. Among the projects presented are (i) the investigation of natural and synthetic products with potential antitumor activity, including compounds encapsulated in nanostructured systems, (ii) the development of nanocarriers, as well as the evaluation of their toxicity, (iii) the development of spheres for the study of the tumor microenvironment, (iv) the use of RNA interference in post-transcriptional silencing of genes involved in cancer, (v) the search for microRNAs as biomarkers for the early diagnosis of liver damage, gliomas and cancer of lung. In addition to the interests related to the basic science involved, the interests related to scientific innovation, with respect to the production of new materials and technologies, enabling the acquisition of new products and patents, were also presented.

GEIMM receives student from Italy
O aluno de doutorado Simone Detassis, da Università deglu Studi di Trento-Itália, está desenvolvendo parte do seu trabalho no GEIMM/UFSC. Seu objetivo é a pesquisa de microRNAs como potenciais biomarcadores para o diagnóstico precoce do câncer de pulmão.
The PhD student Simone Detassis, from Università degli Studi di Trento-Italy, is developing part of his work at GEIMM / UFSC. Its goal is to search for microRNAs as potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis of lung cancer.
